Complete guide to using Suno
Use the Suno Add Instrumental API on ApiPass to add a new instrumental accompaniment to an existing public audio file. Provide a downloadable audio URL, title, included style tags, and required negative tags, then retrieve generated audio and cover assets through an asynchronous task workflow.

Suno Add Instrumental is an AI music workflow for generating new accompaniment around an existing source audio track. The API accepts a public uploadUrl rather than a local file or previous Suno task ID. Developers describe the desired instruments, mood, and musical style with tags, provide negativeTags for excluded elements, and optionally choose a Suno model version such as V4_5PLUS, V5, or V5_5. ApiPass creates an asynchronous job, tracks intermediate generation phases, and returns final media URLs when the task reaches success.
Generate a new backing arrangement for an existing public audio file. Use tags to specify instruments, genre, mood, and arrangement details such as cinematic pop, warm piano, soft strings, electronic drums, or acoustic textures.
Choose supported Suno model versions with input.model. V4_5PLUS is the default version, V5 provides stronger musical expression and faster generation, and V5_5 supports newer personalized music preferences.
Create a task with /api/v1/jobs/createTask, store data.taskId, and poll /api/v1/jobs/recordInfo. ApiPass keeps intermediate text and first callback phases in generating and returns success only after the complete phase is received.
The API works from a source uploadUrl that can be downloaded directly from the public internet. This makes it suitable for server-side pipelines where audio is already stored on a CDN or object storage service.
Use tags to describe the accompaniment you want and negativeTags to prevent unwanted instruments, genres, or textures. negativeTags is required, and none should be used when there are no elements to exclude.
Final results are returned through resultJson.resultUrls, which may include generated audio, streaming audio, and cover image URLs. Clients should support resultJson as either a JSON string or an object.
Let creators upload vocal demos to public storage and generate polished instrumental arrangements around them using controlled style tags and model versions.
Build rapid prototyping tools for producers who want to test piano, string, electronic, acoustic, or cinematic backing ideas against the same source recording.
Integrate accompaniment generation into apps for podcasts, short-form music, creator tools, and media platforms that need asynchronous audio generation with callback or polling support.
Choose the supported version and task workflow based on the amount of control your integration needs.
If input.model is omitted, ApiPass sends V4_5PLUS. This version is described as a richer-sounding V4.5+ option and is a conservative default for general accompaniment generation.
Use V5 for stronger musical expression and faster generation. Use V5_5 when you want access to the newer version intended for personalized music preferences. Version matching is case-insensitive and normalized before upstream submission.
After creating a task, query recordInfo with the returned taskId or provide callBackUrl to receive the final result. Intermediate text and first phases remain generating; success is returned only after complete.
The source playground shows Add Instrumental tasks as a 12-credit operation. Actual credit usage may depend on the selected channel and current ApiPass billing configuration.
Use channel to select auto, starter, regular, or official routing. auto lets ApiPass allocate tasks across available providers based on real-time pricing and stability metrics.
Generated files are documented as retained for 14 days by the upstream provider. Download and persist any generated audio or cover assets needed for long-term storage.
Upload your source audio to a public CDN or object storage URL that can be downloaded directly without cookies, login, localhost access, or expired signatures.
Send a POST request to /api/v1/jobs/createTask with model set to suno/add-instrumental. Include uploadUrl, title, negativeTags, tags, and optional controls such as input.model, vocalGender, styleWeight, weirdnessConstraint, and audioWeight.
Save data.taskId from the create response and poll /api/v1/jobs/recordInfo until state is success. If callBackUrl is supplied, ApiPass posts the final task result after completion using the same response structure.
The API page shows the parameter schema, but Suno also has several business-specific mode combinations and callback rules that are easy to miss.
All APIs require authentication via Bearer Token.

Create an asynchronous Suno task that adds a new instrumental accompaniment to an existing public audio file and outputs the resulting Suno music.
The API accepts a JSON payload with the following structure:
1{
2 "model": "suno/add-instrumental",
3 "callBackUrl": "string (optional)",
4 "channel": "auto",
5 "input": {
6 "uploadUrl": "string",
7 "title": "string",
8 "negativeTags": "string",
9 "tags": "string",
10 "model": "V4_5PLUS | V5 | V5_5 (optional)",
11 "vocalGender": "m | f (optional)",
12 "styleWeight": 0.61,
13 "weirdnessConstraint": 0.2,
14 "audioWeight": 0.65
15 }
16}modelRequiredstringThe public model name. For this API, it must be fixed as suno/add-instrumental.
"suno/add-instrumental"
callBackUrlOptionalstringCallback URL for task completion notifications. If omitted, no callback will be sent to your service.
channelOptionalstringSelects the provider route used by APIPASS for this task. The default channel is auto; APIPASS automatically allocates tasks across available providers based on real-time pricing and stability metrics. starter is ultra-low-cost with limited quotas and weaker stability; regular is standard and much cheaper than official APIs with moderate stability; official uses the model native API with high stability, fast task execution, and official pricing.

Available options:
auto
The input object contains the parameters for adding instrumental accompaniment to the source audio.
input.uploadUrlRequiredstringPublic URL of the source audio file to which instrumental accompaniment will be added.
The URL must be directly downloadable by ApiPass from the public internet. Avoid localhost, private network URLs, login-protected URLs, anti-hotlinking URLs, and expired signed URLs. ApiPass recommends passing a string; if a preprocessing layer sends a single-element array, the adapter uses the first URL.
input.titleRequiredstringTitle of the generated music. This may be shown in players and file metadata.
"ApiPass Instrumental Mix"
input.negativeTagsRequiredstringStyles, instruments, or musical elements to exclude from the generated accompaniment.
This field is required. If there are no elements to exclude, set it to none. Maximum length is 200 characters.
"heavy metal, distorted guitar"
input.tagsRequiredstringDesired accompaniment style, instruments, and characteristics to add to the source audio.
Describe the desired accompaniment style, instruments, mood, and musical characteristics. Maximum length is 1000 characters.
"cinematic pop, piano, warm strings"
input.modelOptionalstringSuno model version. V4_5PLUS is the default version and is described by ApiPass as a richer-sounding V4.5+ model; V5 provides stronger musical expression and faster generation; V5_5 is a newer version for personalized music preferences.
This is the Suno model version used by ApiPass and is different from the root-level model field. Version matching is case-insensitive; for example, v5_5 is normalized to V5_5. If omitted, ApiPass sends V4_5PLUS to ApiPass.
Available options:
"V5"
input.vocalGenderOptionalstringPreferred vocal gender tendency: m for male or f for female.
This field only nudges the generation tendency and does not guarantee the final vocal character.
Available options:
"f"
input.styleWeightOptionalnumberStrength of adherence to the style description in input.tags.
Must be a number from 0 to 1 with at most two decimal places. Numeric strings such as "0.65" are normalized to numbers before sending to ApiPass.
0.61
input.weirdnessConstraintOptionalnumberDegree of creative or experimental deviation in the generated accompaniment.
Must be a number from 0 to 1 with at most two decimal places. Numeric strings such as "0.20" are normalized to numbers before sending to ApiPass.
0.2
input.audioWeightOptionalnumberRelative weight of the source audio in the generated result.
Must be a number from 0 to 1 with at most two decimal places. Numeric strings such as "0.65" are normalized to numbers before sending to ApiPass.
