Complete guide to using Suno
Use the Suno Add Vocals API on ApiPass to add AI-generated vocals to an existing instrumental or music track from a public audio URL. Submit a prompt, title, style, required negative tags, and optional vocal controls, then poll the asynchronous task until the generated audio track is ready.

The Suno Add Vocals API turns an existing public audio file into a new vocal music track. Instead of uploading local file content to ApiPass, provide a directly accessible uploadUrl for the source audio, then describe the desired vocal content, performance direction, mood, and music style. The endpoint supports V4_5PLUS, V5, and V5_5 model versions, optional male or female vocal tendency, and numeric controls for style adherence, creative deviation, and source-audio influence. The workflow is asynchronous: create a task, save the returned ApiPass task ID, and query /api/v1/jobs/recordInfo until the task reaches success or fail.
Provide a public mp3, wav, or other common audio URL and generate a new track with vocals guided by your prompt, title, and style. This is useful for turning instrumentals, sketches, or background music into complete vocal tracks.
Use style, vocalGender, styleWeight, weirdnessConstraint, and audioWeight to shape the result. The model can lean toward male or female vocals, follow a requested genre more strongly, experiment creatively, or preserve more of the source audio character.
Create Task returns data.taskId after submission. Poll the Query Task API or receive a callback to retrieve the final task state. When successful, parse resultJson to access the generated track array, audio URLs, cover image URLs, title, and duration.
ApiPass accepts a public uploadUrl for the source audio rather than local file content. This makes server-side integration straightforward and keeps the Create Task request compact.
Describe the sung content, vocal phrasing, mood, melody direction, and performance style in natural language. Optional gender tendency lets you guide the vocal character without adding unsupported parameters.
Successful tasks return resultJson as a JSON string containing generated audio track data. Parse it to read audio_url, source_audio_url, image_url, source_image_url, title, duration, and the upstream task ID.
Let users submit public instrumental audio and generate complete vocal versions with a title, style, and guided vocal prompt.
Add vocal concepts to unfinished demos, backing tracks, or arrangement drafts so creators can evaluate song direction faster.
Integrate asynchronous task creation, polling, callbacks, and parsed resultJson data into apps that generate and publish music assets at scale.
Use the Create Task and Query Task APIs together to submit and retrieve Add Vocals results reliably.
Send a POST request to /api/v1/jobs/createTask with model set to suno/add-vocals and an input object containing prompt, title, negativeTags, style, and uploadUrl. Optional fields include model, vocalGender, styleWeight, weirdnessConstraint, and audioWeight.
Save the returned data.taskId and query /api/v1/jobs/recordInfo until state is success or fail. If callBackUrl is provided in the Create Task request, ApiPass posts the completed task payload to your endpoint using the same structure as the Query Task API response.
When state is success, parse data.resultJson as JSON before accessing nested fields. The parsed object includes resultJson.taskId and resultJson.data, an array of generated audio tracks with audio URLs, cover image URLs, title, and duration.
The Add Vocals operation costs 12 credits. A successful Create Task response confirms submission, not completion, because generation runs asynchronously.
ApiPass validates required fields, supported model versions, vocalGender values, and numeric weight ranges before creating an upstream task. Invalid requests are rejected before billing.
The source audio must be reachable from the public internet. Local paths, login-protected URLs, expired signed URLs, or firewall-blocked URLs may cause generation failure.
Host the source audio at a public URL that can be downloaded directly. Common formats such as mp3 and wav are recommended.
Call /api/v1/jobs/createTask with model set to suno/add-vocals. Include prompt, title, negativeTags, style, uploadUrl, and any optional model or weighting controls you need.
Use the returned data.taskId with /api/v1/jobs/recordInfo, or provide callBackUrl to receive completion notifications. Parse resultJson after success to retrieve the generated audio track data.
The API page shows the parameter schema, but Suno also has several business-specific mode combinations and callback rules that are easy to miss.
All APIs require authentication via Bearer Token.
Authorization: Bearer
Submit a Suno Add Vocals task to add vocals to an existing instrumental or music track from a public audio URL.
The API accepts a JSON payload with the following structure:
1{
2 "model": "suno/add-vocals",
3 "callBackUrl": "string (optional)",
4 "channel": "auto",
5 "input": {
6 "prompt": "string",
7 "title": "string",
8 "negativeTags": "string",
9 "style": "string",
10 "uploadUrl": "string",
11 "model": "V4_5PLUS",
12 "vocalGender": "string (optional)",
13 "styleWeight": 0.65,
14 "weirdnessConstraint": 0.65,
15 "audioWeight": 0.65
16 }
17}modelRequiredstringThe public model name. This value is fixed as suno/add-vocals.
"suno/add-vocals"
callBackUrlOptionalstringCallback URL for task completion notifications. If omitted, no callback will be sent.
channelOptionalstringYou may specify the corresponding provider within APIPASS via the channel parameter; these providers handle the actual image, video, music, and audio generation tasks. APIPASS currently offers three provider options:
The default value for the channel parameter is auto. When enabled, APIPASS automatically allocates tasks across available providers based on real-time pricing and stability metrics to balance minimal cost and reliable performance. Retain the default auto value unless you have custom routing requirements.
Available options:
auto
inputRequiredobjectParameters for adding vocals. This field must be a JSON object.
{"prompt":"A calm and relaxing piano track","title":"Peaceful Piano Vocal","negativeTags":"none","style":"Jazz","uploadUrl":"https://cdn.example.com/music.mp3"}The input object contains the following parameters:
input.promptRequiredstringDescription of the content to sing, the melody direction, or the desired vocal performance.
Describe the sung content, melody, vocal delivery, mood, or performance direction. This field must be placed inside the input object.
"A warm female vocal singing a hopeful chorus with gentle phrasing"
input.titleRequiredstringTitle of the output music track.
"Peaceful Piano Vocal"
input.negativeTagsRequiredstringMusic styles or elements to avoid in the generated result.
This field is required. If there are no styles or elements to exclude, pass a short valid description such as none.
"heavy metal, strong drum beats"
input.styleRequiredstringMusic style for the generated vocal track, such as Jazz, Pop, or Electronic.
"Jazz, cinematic"
input.uploadUrlRequiredstringPublic URL of the source audio to add vocals to.
The URL must be directly accessible from the public internet by ApiPass. ApiPass does not receive local file content for this endpoint. A single string is recommended; if a legacy client sends a single-element array, the adapter uses the first URL.
input.modelOptionalstringSuno model version to use for the Add Vocals task. Only V4_5PLUS, V5, and V5_5 are supported.
The value defaults to V4_5PLUS. Version comparison is case-insensitive, and ApiPass normalizes the value to uppercase before sending it to ApiPass.
Available options:
"V5"
input.vocalGenderOptionalstringPreferred vocal gender tendency: m for male vocals or f for female vocals.
This only increases the preferred vocal tendency and does not guarantee the final vocal gender.
Available options:
"f"
input.styleWeightOptionalnumberStrength of adherence to the requested music style.
Must be a number from 0 to 1 with up to two decimal places. Numeric strings are normalized to numbers.
0.61
input.weirdnessConstraintOptionalnumberDegree of experimental or creative deviation in the generated result.
Must be a number from 0 to 1 with up to two decimal places. Numeric strings are normalized to numbers.
0.2
input.audioWeightOptionalnumberRelative weight of the source audio elements in the generated track.
Must be a number from 0 to 1 with up to two decimal places. Numeric strings are normalized to numbers.
